An introduction to the world of perfumery. We start with an overview of the Natural and Synthetic families, learning the classification of materials. We will use the ‘Etude Olfactive des Essences et des Absolues’ created by Jean Carles and the Olfactive Study of Synthetic Products charts.
For this opening class, and given that it’s spring, we will begin by studying the Green family. This will include natural materials such as violet, narcissus and cassis absolutes as well as synthetics: stemone (used to create fig leaf) and cis 3 hexenol (the scent of cut grass) amongst others.
The second part of the class will be devoted to blending and you will be able to take home your creations.
No experience is necessary. All you need to bring is a notebook, an open mind, a clear nose and a sense of fun!
